Protect yourself from IRS imposter scams

An IRS imposter scam is when someone contacts you pretending to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). They falsely say that you owe taxes and must pay them immediately or face serious penalties.

There are many different types of IRS imposter scams. So we made this type of scam the topic of a placemat, part of a series of fraud prevention placemats that meal service providers, libraries, financial institutions or other groups can share with older adults.

Read our latest blog to find out what our colleagues at the IRS tell us they WON’T do so you know the difference.
