About the APRP Accreditation

The APRP accreditation is administered nationally each August and recognizes payments professionals who have achieved comprehensive knowledge of risk management across payment systems.

The exam evaluates expertise in areas such as risk identification, controls, policies, governance, information security, and regulatory compliance. Earning this accreditation demonstrates your ability to manage risk holistically—across every payments channel and at every organizational level.

Why Become APRP Accredited?

Earning the APRP accreditation demonstrates mastery of payments risk management across all payment types, including ACH, check, wire, debit, credit, prepaid, and instant payments. It validates your expertise in identifying, managing, and mitigating risk—critical skills in today’s fast-paced and complex payments environment.

Whether you’re an individual seeking professional growth or an organization focused on risk management excellence, APRP accreditation delivers lasting value.

Benefits include:

  • Ability to identify inherent risks and implement effective controls
  • Enhanced understanding of risk as it relates to organizational strategy and objectives
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance and sound risk governance
  • Increased professional credibility and recognition as a trusted industry expert
  • Improved team and organizational performance through stronger risk management practices
  • An industry-recognized pathway for professional development and leadership advancement

By earning the APRP accreditation—or encouraging your employees to do so—you’re investing in the strength, credibility, and resilience of your organization’s risk management framework.

Maintaining Your APRP Certification

The APRP accreditation is valid for five years. You may maintain your status as an APRP by earning and reporting 60 continuing education credits during the five-year period. Alternatively, rather than reporting credits, you may sit for and pass another APRP exam. Participation in APRP training sessions, Payments University, and select Navigating Payments sessions all qualify as continuing education credits.  Check out our Calendar of Events for qualifying sessions to maintain your APRP.
